4 Questions for a faith-filled New Year

This season can feel like a transition. Not sure what’s ahead, but glad to leave some things behind. I love that we are not alone – we get to step forward with God, carrying lessons from the past and hope for what’s ahead. This is a time to pause: a moment to listen, release, and realign our hearts with His purpose.

Instead of clinging to cultural, rigid resolutions, consider entering this year with intention, prayer, and trust. Let this be a year where growth is rooted in grace, not perfection or pressure!

Take some time today or this week—quietly, prayerfully—to reflect and journal these four questions as you prepare your heart for the year ahead.

1. What’s your Word, Prayer or Bible Verse for your upcoming year?

I love choosing a word with Scripture as an anchor for the year—a reminder of God’s promise or direction when life feels uncertain. It might be peace, discipline, trust, or renewal. It might be a verse that keeps drawing your heart back to truth.

Ask God:

What do You want to create in me this year?

Write it down. Pray over it. Return to it often. Let it shape your decisions, your mindset, and your expectations.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”

~ Proverbs 16:3

2. What’s one habit I’ll practice with grace and consistency?

Growth doesn’t come from doing everything at once—it comes from small, faithful, millimeter steps repeated over time. Choose one habit that supports your spiritual, physical, or emotional well-being and commit to practicing it with grace.

This isn’t about perfection. There will be missed days and imperfect moments. Grace allows you to begin again without shame.

Ask yourself:

What habit helps me steward my body, mind, or time in a way that honors God?

Consistency, even when imperfect, is an act of faith.

3. When I feel discouraged, I will remember…?

Discouragement will come—we know it always does. The question isn’t if, but what you’ll cling to when it arrives!

Maybe you’ll remember that God is faithful even when progress feels slow. Maybe you’ll remember past victories, prayers answered, or how far He’s already brought you.

Decide now what truth you’ll return to when doubt creeps in. Write your reminder somewhere visible. Let it speak louder than fear when your emotions feel heavy.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

~ Psalm 34:18

4. What’s one thing I want to leave behind in the coming year?

Every new season requires release. You cannot fully receive what God has for you while clinging tightly to what He’s asking you to surrender.

It might be comparison, guilt, perfectionism, negative self-talk, or the pressure to prove yourself. Leaving something behind doesn’t mean forgetting—it means trusting God enough to move forward with surrender.

Ask Him:

What no longer serves the person You’re calling me to become?

Lay it down. You don’t have to carry it another year.

Walking Forward in Faith

As you step into this new year, remember: God is not rushing you. He is refining you. Your journey doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s—it only needs to stay aligned with Him.

Let this be a year of listening more than forcing, trusting more than striving, and growing rooted deeply in faith.

You’re not starting over.

You’re continuing—with God beside you every step of the way!
